'Black Lightning' DC Pilot Gets an Order from The CW

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The latest DC superhero headed to The CW is Black Lightning, the most recent project from Greg Berlanti, who heads up the network's superhero output. The series also hails from The Game and Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil has well as her husband Salim Akin. The pilot order is just the latest, and we can be confident in seeing the hero join Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and the Legends of Tomorrow in some shared-universe goodness.

Fox had given a big production commitment to the pilot, before opting to not see it through. The producing studio Warner Bros. TV shopped it around, and the CW was, naturally, the quickest to jump onto the project. The network is developing into a bit of an orphanage for neglected series. Riverdale similarly had a home at Fox, for a short time, while Supergirl was resurrected after being axed on CBS.

Black Lightning will center on Jefferson Pierce, who retires from the vigilante business until his daughter is recruited by a local gang. This prompts him to jump back into the game.
