'Black Lightning' In Development for TV From Greg Berlanti and DC Comics
Greg Berlanti, the producer of all DC superhero shows (barring Gotham) is at it again, this time putting Black Lightning in development with The Game creators Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil.
The series is being shopped around at the moment, and could mark the first black superhero on traditional TV (excepting Luke Cage and Vixen, both of which are appearing on streaming services).
The series will focus on Jefferson Pierce, who has retired from vigilantism until his daughter decides to follow in his footsteps. As gang activity rises, Pierce takes up the cowl again as Black Lighting.
The character is a metahuman that can control electro-magnetic fields, and can launch projectiles. Whether this is new show is a good thing is subjective - do we need another superhero on TV? - it'll be interesting to see who, if anyone, snaps it up.
