'Bond' Franchise Looking to its First Female Director in 'The Night Manager''s Susanne Bier

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Rumours have erupted regarding the 25th James Bond film, but attention has for the moment been averted from who will play the titular role, and instead now it seems The Night Manger director Susanne Bier is being eyed to direct the film.

Bier is said to be among only a handful of named on producer Barbara Broccoli's shortlist to replace Sam Mendes, who helmed Skyfall and Spectre and will not be returning to the franchise. Given Bier's working relationship with Hiddleston following the AMC/BBC series, it seems a perfect fit.

It would also make her the first female filmmaker to tackle the Bond franchise. If Hiddleston and Bier do make the jump, it would give water to the sentiment that The Night Manager was in many ways an audition for Bond.

Of Hiddleston, Bier said earlier this year that “There’s a certain incredibly enigmatic quality to his eyes. You aren’t sure you can trust him, but you are sure there is a pain there that he doesn’t show.

"He’s so immaculate and fun and elegant and charming, and there is somewhere inside of him a painfulness, which I think for most women, is irresistible.”
