Bruce Willis Will Feature in More than Two Scenes in Die Hard: Year One

Early reports suggested that Bruce Willis would play a framing role in the upcoming prequel, opening and closing the film in much the same vein as other similarly structured stories. Though, these reports may have jumped to assumption.

Len Wiseman has clarified that Willis will feature in more than two scenes as his iconic (and dated) John McClane. On a Television Critics Association panel for Fox TV show Lucifer (for which he directed the pilot, as well as produced), Slashfilm took the time to ask him about the film.

"He will be more present than that," Wiseman said on Willis' limited, suggested screen time. "This character of course is modern day and the origin story if you can call it that has ramifications on present day McClane. What it's not is it's not a cameo bookend scenario. It's a prequel/sequel hybrid that I really haven't seen before and is incredibly different."

He may not have seen it before, but it sounds familiar to such films as The Godfather Part 2. Wiseman continued on to discuss that McClane's relationship with Holly, who featured in the first two films, will be central to the film.

Due to the character's emotional baggage at the beginning of Die Hard, Wiseman wants to explore the question, "why was he already that guy?" Die Hard: Year One is in development at 20th Century Fox.
