Chris Hemsworth to Play Hulk Hogan in Netflix Biopic Directed by Todd Phillips

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Can’t say I saw this one coming but you have my attention Todd Phillips.

The team behind Warner Bros. and DC’s JOKER movie are going to make a Hulk Hogan biopic starring Marvel star Chris Hemsworth.

Let’s take a second to let that sink in.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Hemsworth has signed a deal to portray professional wrestling legend and 90’s film superstar, Terry Gene Bollea, aka Hulk Hogan. The deal, which took months to finalize, will reunite Director Todd Phillips and writer Scott Silver for Netflix’s newest biopic that will focus on the “rise” and “origin” of the Hulkster and Hulkamania.

Sources also report the Hulkster himself will act as a consultant as well as executive producer. Which means, whatever Phillips and Silver plan to spotlight, will come from the lens of Hogan himself. As a lifelong fan, I’d rather it be Hogan who provides - for better or for worse - a first-hand account from his days on the regional circuit to his rise to stardom in Vince McMahon Sr.’s World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

While I can't say I saw this one coming, this news won’t necessarily constitute seeing is believing since Hemsworth is a trusted brand who shares Hogan's genetic attributes standing 6’3 to Hulk's 6’7, along with the charisma, blonde locks, and ability to muscle up as demonstrated playing Marvel's God of Thunder.

Should be interesting to see pre-production unfold. I mean, if we're talking Hogan's rise to Hulkamania, this biopic should include additional casting for the likes of The Iron Sheik, Gorilla Monsoon, Vince McMahon, Verne Gagne, Bobby Heenan, Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake (Ed Leslie), 'Superstar' Billy Graham, Macho Man Randy Savage, and hopefully many, many other industry influences, friends, and opponents.

Stay tuned!
