Christopher Nolan Warns Against the Continued Use of Digital Over Film

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Christopher Nolan has in the past made very clear his preference of film over digital, but in a recent interview he has given out a stern warning to movie theaters regarding the future of cinema.

As ticket prices continue to increase, Nolan believes that theaters need to actually offer what those swelling prices promise, and not just a giant television in a dark room.

"For some reason, it has become acceptable to say (to audiences) we are providing this empty room with a TV in it and just watch a film." Nolan said.

"That has to change and if it doesn't change, forget film, forget digital, if that experience for the audience is not valued, people stop going."

Nolan commended fellow director Quentin Tarantino for his efforts in having film projectors installed into movie theaters across the country for his latest film, The Hateful Eight, out of his own pocket.

Responding to executives that have argued with the question 'doesn't storytelling trump everything?', Nolan would respond with "no, it doesn't, otherwise we'd be making radio plays, it would be a lot cheaper".
