Director Danny Boyle Speaks Out About Steve Jobs Box Office Failure

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Despite solid reviews from critics and early Oscar talk surrounding Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs crashed and burned in front of audiences. Universal pulled the film from 2,000 screens after it failed to reel in an audience.

Director Danny Boyle, speaking to BBC, has said that he believes the studio's release tactics are at fault.

"It's very easy in hindsight, but I think it's probably that we released it too wide too soon," Boyle said. Despite that the film was a hit in its limited four-theater release in New York and L.A. on October 9, but failed when it spread everywhere else just two weeks later.

Boyle will not criticize Universal's approach, believeing them to be "genuinely very proud" of the film. Steve Jobs releases across the U.K. on November 13, so not all is lost just yet.
