Disney Pixar's 'Dia De Los Muertos' Film Finally Announced
Last night a boatload of movie details were exploding out of Disney's D23 Expo, and Disney-Pixar finally announced one special project about an unfamiliar topic...
For years there has been rumors on Disney-Pixar making a movie about 'Dia De Los Muertos.' If you don't know what that is, 'Day of the Dead' is a holiday usually celebrated in Spanish-speaking countries (most popular in Mexico). The film is named 'Coco,' based off of an important character in the story. Lee Unkrich will be directing the film and he hasn't directed one since 'Toy Story 3.'
These are some of the details that came out of the Expo last night about 'Coco':
Lee Unkrich explained that he found 'Dia De Los Muertos' through various art work. He fell in love with the colorful skeleton folk art, and he was enchanted with the holiday. Unkrich was describing the holiday as "A big reunion between the living and the dead."
The storyline is pretty epic, and you can sum it up into just one question: "What if you could meet your long dead family members?" Unkrich traveled to Mexico and experienced different traditions with different families during the holiday.
John Lasseter took some time to describe the film and he said it's "Breathtaking, beautiful and fun," and Director Lee Unkrich described the film as "emotional."
The story follows a 12 year old boy named Miguel, who sets off a chain of events to a century old mystery. The official description of the film reads: "Coco is the celebration of a lifetime, where the discovery of a generation old mystery leads to the most extraordinary and surprising family reunion."
Will 'Coco' join the class of Pixar movies to be insanely emotional? Will it capture the audience like 'Inside Out' did? We will find out coming Fall 2017.
