Disney-Pixar's President Says Pixar's Sequel Spree Will End Soon

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter Pixar is on a "sequel" spree which started off with Finding Dory, and it will continue with the likes of Toy Story 4, Cars 3, and The Incredibles 2.

Pixar's President Jim Morris recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly. During his interview he talks about why certain sequels make the cut and why your going to have to wait awhile for the next sequels.

Morris explains Pixar's sequel process

“Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don’t make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on,”

Morris talks about the difficulty of making sequels.

“A sequel in some regards is even harder [than the original] because you’ve got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can’t disappoint on.”

Morris said everything after the slew of sequels will be original films. This means you will have to wait another decade if you want sequels to Ratatouille, WALL-E, A Bug's Life, and Inside Out.

According to EW, the director of Inside Out Pete Docter has an original idea for his next Pixar film. Also Jim Morris who produced WALL-E says he doesn't have plans for a sequel in the future. Morris talked more about the subject below.

"It would be good to back and visit that world and let everybody know that the humans actually survived again after getting back to their burnt-out planet. But that was really a love story that had its beginning, middle, and end, so we’re not really planning any further stories in those worlds at this point"

The upcoming sequel slate isn't just a nostalgia push. It's actually that Pixar has new stories to tell. In 2017 a new original Pixar movie will come out called Coco and it will be directed by Lee Unkrich. It took 13 years for a Finding Nemo sequel and it's going to take 15 to see the sequel to The Incredibles.

Fans will have to wait a long time to see sequels to Up, A Bug's Life, WALL-E, and Inside Out. At least anything is possible with Pixar!
