'Divergent' TV Movie May No Longer Happen, More Details Revealed
The Divergent Series has been a disaster for Lionsgate, and with reports that the final film won't even hit theaters, things have gotten even more confusing with actors coming out shocked at the reveal. It sounds like there's plenty of question marks inside the studio.
Reports had the final film being a TV movie, with the means of spinning a TV series out from that, but now Deadline is reporting that the studio will now present to about 12 networks with the project. It could also go to Starz, which was recently acquired by Lionsgate.
TV group chairman Kevin Beggs has said that they're excited about “resolving the novel in a season across 10 to 13 episodes and then expanding from there into multiple seasons.” From that, it now sounds like the movie may not even be happening at all.
Switching mediums probably isn't the answer, but Lionsgate wants some kind of return for their investment. It's completely up n the air whether this thing becomes something else, or vanishes into nothingness. The box office numbers indicate it's already three quarters of the way there.
