Facebook Will Spend Big Bucks on Original Content

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter Facebook is trying to get into the streaming game. They are willing to pay $250,000 per episode for original content.

Facebook's CFO David Wehner says "it's kickstarting a ecosystem for longer-form content." Facebook will reveal their streaming slate in June according to Business Insider. Facebook has already signed up Conde Nast, Buzzfeed, and Vox to produce original shows. Facebook also has Oh My Disney! and the Disney Digital Network resurrecting Mickey Mouse Club as Club Mickey Mouse for Facebook.

Variety's report confirmed that Facebook is essentially looking at two tiers of programming: Longer-form originals which it wants to own outright, and shorter shows running five to 10 minutes that it may license on a windowed basis (like Disney and Buzzfeed).
