'Fahrenheit 451' Trailer Starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor In HBO’s adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon are competing firefighting agents in a dystopian regime where literature and other relics that once shaped world history are permanently outlawed. And instead of putting fires out, firefighters are now responsible for burning books to censor society.

The trailer for Ramin Bahrani's (99 Homes) adaptation of Bradbury's 1953 classic feels reminiscent to Blade Runner 2049's backward tracing, unraveling a mystery that sets Michael B. Jordan's morally conflicted character named Montag down a path to dismantle what he believes to be a corrupt and oppressive system led by his fire-captain superior superbly portrayed by Michael Shannon.

“I want to know why we burn,” declares Montag, which Beatty responds, “We were not born equal. We must be made equal by the fire… and then we can be happy.”

Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Kingsman: The Secret Service) also stars as Clarisse, an informant caught between the competing interests of Montag and Beatty. YouTube star Lilly Singh plays a tabloid reporter named Raven, tasked with spreading propaganda and broadcasting the firemens' book-burning raids.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, then you won’t want to miss Fahrenheit 451’s premiere May 19 on HBO.
