First look at Michael Sheen and Dan Stevens in Gareth Evans' revenge thriller 'APOSTLE'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Stevens going full-tilt big brother assault mode sounds like an absolute delight.

It’s hard not to get excited at the prospect of a Gareth Evans helmed revenge thriller starring Dan Stevens as a man who must save his sister (played by Sing Street’s Lucy Boynton) from a religious cult led by Michael Sheen.

It bears repeating: Gareth Evans + Dan Stevens + Lucy Boynton + Michael Sheen = Apostle a/k/a Give Me This F—king Movie Now!

Last week EW shared a first look at Dan Stevens character, Thomas Richardson aka the “prodigal son”. Upon learning that his sister is being held ransom by a religious cult, Richardson travels to a remote island and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. This week, we have a new pic (h/t Bloody Disgusting) featuring a bearded Michael Sheen as the cult's charismatic leader Prophet Malcom who has Stevens’ character in a precarious position. Of course, this is a revenge thriller so you can bet that sharp blade won't be pointed in Richardson’s face for long, or so we hope!

The Netflix exclusive will hit the streaming platform on October 12 after premiering at this year’s much-anticipated Fantastic Fest late September.

Synopsis

Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. Apostle is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it.
