First Trailer: Ari Aster's Scandinavian folk horror 'MIDSOMMAR'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor MIDSOMMAR will do wonders for Sweden’s travel industry.

One underrated component of A24’s rise as America’s leading Independent distributor is a formula that fosters the creative works from first-time filmmakers, including Hereditary's Ari Aster.

In MIDSOMMAR, Aster returns with his highly anticipated follow up, this time exchanging a familial drama and demonic cults with “Scandinavian folk horror” and pagan cults.

What could go wrong?

'Midsommar' Teaser Trailer A24

The first teaser for A24's fish out of water t̶a̶l̶e̶ nightmare stars Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, and Will Poulter, who are visiting their friend's seemingly idyllic hometown nestled away in Sweden's serene countryside. It is there, the group arrives just in time for Sweden’s National holiday celebrating the start of summer! Because who doesn’t like summer?!? Much like Sweden’s actual holiday, Midsommar is a haven for large gatherings, tableside feasts (see - bear intestines), flower picking, and dancing rituals. But unlike Sweden’s actual pre-summer holiday, the group discovers that Midsommar only comes around every 90 years. And even worse, the 9-day festival is run by a sinister cult. As they say, timing is everything, right?

Similar to Hereditary’s first teaser, MIDSOMMAR packs quite a punch with a few shots we’ll undoubtedly be anticipating when Aster’s sophomore effort hits theaters August 9.

Check it out and decide if Midsommar is for you!
