Hera Hilmar to Star in Peter Jackson's 'Mortal Engines'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Hera Hilmar of Da Vinci's Demons fame has been cast as the female lead in Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh's Mortal Engines. Hilmar follows the completion of filming on The Ottoman Lieutenant with this latest role, and will join Robbie Sheehan and Ronan Raftery in the latest film from the Middle Earth team.

Production kicks off in spring in New Zealand, and will arrive on December 14, 2018. Walsh and Jackson co-wrote the script with Philippa Boyens, while Christian Rivers is attached to direct, having spent many years as something of an understudy to Jackson (beginning his career as a Story Board Artist all the way through to Splinter Unit Director on The Hobbit trilogy).

The film is based on the first novel in a series of the same name, and is a sci-fi/hybrid intended as the launching pad of a series based on the Philip Reeve books. It is a world many thousands of years into the future, in which Earth's cities circle the globe on huge wheels, demolishing each other in a race for resources, which are becoming more and more scarce.
