Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in and Produce Video Game Adaptation 'The Division'
With Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed coming out this year, it seems the gaming company is feeling confident. Now, another of their properties is on the way, with another of today's biggest actors in the lead.
Ubisoft is developing a film based off The Division, with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star in and produce, mirroring Michael Fassbender's own role in bringing Assassin's Creed to life.
Tom Clancy's The Division became Ubisoft's bestselling game ever when it released in March. The game deals with the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic in New York City. The player takes the role of an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division tasked with helping rebuild operations in a near-deserted and crime-filled Manhattan.
A writer is currently being sought after, and while it's still early days, the world of video games is certainly being explored for adaptation lately, but with a newfound emphasis on quality filmmaking, given the talent behind Assassin's Creed.
