Jamie Foxx Cast in Iconic Role for Robin Hood: Origins

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Jamie Foxx has rounded out the iconic trio being brought to life in the upcoming film, Robin Hood: Origins. Foxx has been cast as Little John, described as different to the typical balding, plump mentor of the classic tales.

Instead, he's a "battle hardened but war weary" muscle man coming off of The Crusades, during which he fought against Robin Hood. For this, he is initially distrustful of Robin Hood's motivations and goals, but this will, hopefully, lead to a satisfying coming together.

Taron Egerton from Kingsman: The Secret Service, plays Robin, and Eve Hewson will play Maid Marian. Otto Bathurst is directing the film, known in the TV world for directing on shows such as Peaky Blinders. The film is said to be a "gritty revisionist take" on the old story.

Much like many modern films, particular superhero tales drenched in realism like Batman Begins, Robin has been away from a long time and returns home to a world filled with corruption. Forming a team of outlaws, Robin will take back his town. Sounds formulaic, so far.

This will be Foxx's first appearance since 2014.
