Jean-Marc Vallee in talks to direct Amy Adams in Janis Joplin biopic

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallee has reportedly opened talks with Amy Adams about starring in a biopic on the late musician Janis Joplin.

Vallee is expected to have another busy year at award shows with his new movie Wild expected to be a potential contender during awards season, with its star Reese Witherspoon being tipped to land Best Actress nominations, too.

Vallee burst into people's conscience last year with his intensely brilliant Dallas Buyers Club that lead to Matthew McConaughey accepting the first Oscar of his career. Vallee received critical acclaim for the movie and with his new movie Wild getting the same treatment from critics.

Vallee certainly likes to keep busy. He is currently in talks with Amy Adams (American Hustle) to play the musician Janis Joplin in a biopic on her life. It is expected to combine major factors from his last two movies: a story based in truth, anchored by a significant female performance.

Deadline reported the news saying the as-yet untitled movie is still working from the script by Ron and Theresa Terry, and that the current plan is to shoot in mid-2015.

Last year, it looked like director Lee Daniels (The Butler) might make the movie, which at the time was called 'Get it While You Can.' But for certain reasons, Daniels' involvement didn't work out and now Vallee has been attached.

With his latest movie Wild about to be released, Vallee has just finished shooting the film Demolition, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper. That film doesn’t yet have a release date.
