Joe Carnahan Reportedly Working on a Script for 'X-Force' X-Men Spinoff

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Joe Carnahan is insanely busy right now. He's working on Bad Boys 3 for directing duties, and has confirmed work on The Raid remake. Not only that, but he's also writing the script for Shawn Levy's Uncharted video game adaptation. So why not add one more? Collider reports that he's now penning the screenplay for 20th Century Fox's X-Force film.

X-Force is a Marvel comic book series that follows a team of mutants that veer closer to crossing the morality line when it comes to saving the world, there to do the black ops, more militaristic-style jobs that the straight-laced X-Men won't do. Two prominent figures in the team, Cable and Domino, are set to make their first big screen appearances in Deadpool 2.

R-rated superheroes are Fox's new crux, it seems, with Deadpool's success and a potential repeat performance with Logan, should the glowing reviews be any indication, and X-Force has been noted in the past as being an R-rated project to begin with.

There's no director attached, though that could change if Fox is impressed by what he turns in with the script. Whether he has the time is a whole other story, but it's an exciting prospect nevertheless. In addition to this and Deadpool 2, X-Men: New Mutants and the rumoured next X-Men mainline film to follow Apocalypse both begin shooting this year. Longtime member of the writing and producing team of the franchise Simon Kinberg is reportedly in talks to direct. Josh Boone, meanwhile, is helming New Mutants, which will steer toward a younger viewership.
