Kristen Stewart Talks Sony's 'Charlie's Angels' Reboot

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Back in September sources close to Sony's Charlie's Angels reboot confirmed Kristen Stewart is in talks to lead the trio of ass-kicking private detectives.

Speaking after Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show in Hamburg, the 27-year old actress kept mum about her involvement with the project but shared some interesting nuggets about the film directed by her good friend "Liz" Elzabeth Banks. (h/t to Joelle Diderich at WWD)

Whoever ends up being in that movie, I can tell you right now — because I’m friends with Liz Banks — I mean, I can tell you it’s going to be really good,” said Stewart, adding that 'she is a fan of the story about members of a female private detective agency.'

Sony Pictures reboot will be a reboot of 2000's American action-comedy starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, and 1976's television series starring original Angel's Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith . Both 2000's Charlie's Angels and 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle went on to gross a total of $533 million worldwide and no one has really talk about either film since. Well, that is until now.

Angels redux 2 speculation began in 2015, shortly after Pitch Perfect 2 director, Elizabeth Banks was asked by Sony execs to helm the project. According to Banks, it didn't take long to visualize her 'take' on a new iteration of the crime fighting trio, and received the green light shortly after pitching her vision.

Whether or not you believe Charlie's Angels needs the reboot treatment, Stewart says times have changed since McG's 2000 Angels release. “I think it’s a good time right now to do another one, because we’ve all changed so much. Women have changed so much, or at least maybe just, you know, perception and the cadence and volume of the voice of women has definitely changed. And I know Liz pretty well, and she’s going to reflect that, and I think it’ll be something to be really proud of,” she added.

Charlie's Angels is slated for June 7, 2019. If Sony can nab Stewart and Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o, I have to admit, my levels will go from mild to count me in.

In the mean time, you can catch Kristen Stewart's dazzling directorial debut short Come Swim free online courtesy of Refinery29 and Shatterbox.
