LeBron James rebooting 'Friday the 13th'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor LeBron James is about to join Team Camp Crystal Lake.

They say money can’t buy happiness. But when your net worth is $400 million and your name happens to be LeBron James, it’s fair to say - what the King wants, the King gets - especially as it relates to his love affair with Friday the 13th.

BloodyDisgusting has learned the 3x NBA champ has signed on as a producer alongside Vertigo Entertainment (IT, The Ring) to reboot Friday the 13th!
James, whose production company SpringHill Entertainment has quietly produced over a dozen television series including CW’s remake of Morgan Freeman’s Leon on Me, will help finance a series he’s long been a fan of dating back to his childhood. James told ESPN last year:

I’m a huge horror fan. I love horror movies. Obviously Friday the 13th being Jason Vorhees day, I think it’s cool. I remember as a kid on Friday the 13th right when I got home from school, my mother and I we would just watch horror movie after horror movie after horror movie. It’s crazy because now my kids love horror movies too. My two boys love them. When I come home they be wanting to watch horror movies. But no superstitions besides just having a great respect for some of the great slashers of all time, some of the greatest ones of all time. And Freddy (Krueger), Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees and Chucky and a couple more.

News of a Friday the 13th reboot shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. As of last March, Platinum Dunes and Paramount were cooking up yet another reboot but plans ultimately fell through after Paramount ceded distribution rights back to Warner Bros/New Line, leaving Platinum Dunes without a major distributor. But even if Paramount had kept distribution rights, the film's original writer Victor Miller had kept the series from going anywhere in on-going litigation with current rights holder, Horror Inc. and Director Sean Cunningham. As of September 28, the judge ruled in favor of Miller, allowing Miller to reclaim domestic rights while producers will obtain rights outside the US market.

While the judge's order itself has not been disclosed, news of LeBron's SpringHill Entertainment co-producing Friday the 13th indicates all signs point to go.

Perhaps LeBron can resurrect Elm Street too?

Stay tuned as we hear more!
