Legendary Pictures Closing in on the Rights for a 'Pokemon' Film Adaptation

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell With Pokemon Go launching itself into the foreground of just about every social interaction, Legendary Pictures is reportedly nearing a deal that will see them make a live-action movie based on the long-running franchise.

Reports surfaced earlier this year that a bidding war was taking place over the coveted property, with Legendary, Warner Bros. and Sony all vying for the right to the franchise. Talks went silent a few months ago, and we haven't heard much since until now.

The movie would be reportedly based on the popular video game series, in which players take on the role of a young trainer tasked with catching Pokemon and obtaining badges from gyms as they make their way up through the ranks.

Deadline reports that "Details are scant at this point, and no deal has been closed, but I am persuaded that it’s headed that way. Attempts to get comment from Legendary were unavailing, and calls to Pokemon USA were not returned.”

We'll hopefully learn more soon.
