Logan

James Mangold’s Logan presents to us a broken world with damaged people. The first line of film, "Fuck", is blurted out with a sense of weariness that hovers over this world. It also lays the groundwork for a series that has been waiting 17 years for an R-rating. It doesn’t take long into the running time for the film to unleash its full violent splendour affirming its departure from superhero movie PG-13 norm.

It’s The End of an Era. 17 years ago, “X-Men” launched the superhero movie genre as we know it. And now, its breakout star Hugh Jackman is saying goodbye to his iconic Wolverine character in “Logan”. It’s Jackman’s third Wolverine spinoff movie, and a commendable swan song.

Logan (2017) - Review

Closing Old Wounds. — In 2000 Hugh Jackman was cast in Bryan Singer’s X-Men, a film that almost single handedly launched the now hugely popular superhero genre into the 21st Century and was a role the Australian actor would occupy for the next 17 years across 9 films. The latest and reportedly final time Jackman will pop his Adamantium claws is now upon us in the form of Logan, the character’s third solo outing. Few would deny that Jackman truly made the role his own. Reports of his initial casting in late 1999 were met with cries of derision from fans of the Marvel Comics from which the Canadian mutant was borne. Jackman was a good foot taller than his fictional counterpart who was known for being small in stature for which he more than made up for with his mutant healing factor, heightened senses, indestructible Adamantium laced skeleton and trademark berserker rage.

Though critics didn't get the privilege, it seems that there is going to be a scene added to the end of Logan for its wide release on March 3. The rumours began circulating last week. 20th Century Fox had added an extra 3 minutes to the film's runtime. Collider has now gone on to confirm that there will definitely be an end credits come release day.

Logan (2017) - Trailer #2

One Last Time... — The latest trailer for Fox's upcoming Wolverine movie, Logan has dropped and this time there's far more of an emphasis on the character of Laura Kinney/X-23 played by Dafne Keen who looks to be every bit as effective a killing machine as Hugh Jackman's Logan. The same rugged almost modern day western tone is present and judging by this latest trailer it's still on course to be this years equivalent of 2016's Deadpool, an R-rated comic book adaptation that pulls no punches.

Update: Ryan Reynolds has gone on Twitter to deny rumours of a Deadpool cameo. "Sadly, not true. Prisoner 24601 is on a solo mission. https://t.co/5czBmMRfY1— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) December 28, 2016." We can only hope it's a double bluff.

So the other day to my surprise, I awake to something that I have been excited for and dreading. The final appearance of Hugh Jackman as the fun loving Login we all have come to love. By now we have all seen the trailer over and over again. The R rating that we have been promised surely is on full display. That is if you wanted to international trailer. (Claws through skull) Director James Mangold sat down with Empire Magazine to confirm details about his film. Mangold has stating that this movie does follows Days of Future Past epilogue, trying to keep some form of the timeline in tacked. Another question that we all asked was that of the Logans healing factor. One one scene we see Logan shirtless in a bathroom cover in scars, he does appear to be sore and full of pain. Mangold explained "The simple idea was that his body would start to get a little more ravaged with a kind of tattooing of past battles, lacerations that remain of previous conflicts.”Last but not least, there is the matter of X-23. Now we haven't fully been told that the new actress Dafne Keane will be playing our beloved X-23, but the trailer does seem to be pointing in that direction. James went on the record by saying "I think what this film is about in many ways is family. From there out I’d let everyone figure out what we’re up to on their own, at least at this early stage.” Logan looks to deliver a perfect send off for the fan favorite character and the beloved Hugh Jackman.
