Mahershala Ali in talks to join 'True Detective season 3'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Rust Cohle was right, we are being reborn into the same life and the secret fate of all life may be True Detective's ability to build us up and tear us down

Variety reported that Oscar-winning Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali is in negotiations to star in a potential third season of HBO’s critically acclaimed drama series True Detective. According to Variety's sources talks are at a very early stage and no deal is in place. Though HBO has not officially greenlit a third season, Ali's casting brings us closer to the reality of a third installment. This coupled with news Deadwood and NYPD creator, David Milch will co-write season 3 along with series creator Nic Pizzolatto, and suddenly we can get excited for season 3.

Ali won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Best Picture winner Moonlight. His TV work includes a role as Remy Danton in Netflix’s House of Cards and a recent recurring role on Luke Cage.

News of a potential third installment might be just what critics and fans need in order to wipe the mixed reaction from season 2. If time was a flat circle, we can only hope Milch and Pizzolatto can recreate the spirit of 2014's critically acclaimed True Detective. We shall see.
