Margot Robbie Cast as Tonya Harding in Upcoming Sports Drama 'I, Tonya'by HaydnSpurrell
A few years back, ESPN aired a documentary that explored the scandal that had rival Tonya Harding attack and injure fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan in 1994.
Now, the events are headed to the big screen, for the upcoming drama I, Tonya, which Deadline reports is being led by Margot Robbie in the titular role of Tonya Harding. Steve Rogers wrote the script in conjunction with interviews he had with Harding and her husband Jeff Gillooly, attempting to find the perspective of the athlete not quite in the same pool as the Olympians above her.
Harding is considered an ugly duckling in comparison to Kerrigan, which Indiewire notes makes for a strange casting with Robbie, who is clearly far from that same description.
There is no director nor financier behind the project just yet, so there's not a lot happening and no promises being made. But Robbie's involvement is sure to catch some eyes.
