Meet the cast of Nicolas Winding Refn's crime series 'Too Old To Die Young'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Amazon's newest crime-thriller is co-written by the talented (and divisive) Nicolas Winding Refn and Ed Brubaker (Captain America: Winter Soldier, Westworld).

The ten-episode series stars Miles Teller, Jena Malone, and John Hawkes in an extremely Refn-like storytelling experience set in the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles and follows the existential journeys of criminal killers becoming ‘samurai’.

Read into ‘samurai’ logline as you will, but Refn’s #brand would not be complete without an existential journey layered with what appears to be a philosophical narrative of the once ruling Samurai warriors of the Edo Period’s military class drawn to the teachings and practices of Zen Buddhism. Someone please tell me Cliff Martinez is scoring this.

The Danish filmmaker revealed a pic on Instagram featuring head shots of Too Old’s cast including Jena Malone (The Neon Demon), Miles Teller (Whiplash), John Hawkes (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), and Gossip Girl's Billy Baldwin firmly cradled on Refn's lap. The low-res pic also features some fresh faces in Callie Hernandez (La La Land), Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), Cristina Rodlo (Sony’s Miss Bala), Augusto Aguilera (The Predator) and Babs Olusanmokun (The Defenders).

According to first-time collaborator Miles Teller, Refn and Brubaker’s project should not be viewed as "a TV series" but rather "a 10-hour movie".

Too Old to Die Young marks the first American TV Series for Refn and second Amazon collaboration since the filmmaker's 2016's schismatic psychological horror, The Neon Demon. Season 1 is without a premiere date but is expected to drop for Amazon Prime subscribers sometime in 2018.

Sound like something you'll watch?
