NBC Reviving Comic Book Hero 'Witchblade' for Television
NBC is developing a new series based on the popular 90s hero Witchblade, according to THR. The character debuted in her own series in 1995 through the Top Cow imprint of Image Comics. Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) are collaborating on a script.
The series follows NYPD detective Sarah Pezzini who is imbued with superhuman powers through an ancient artifact while hunting down a serial killer. The artifact, which is the sentient Witchblade, has existed for centuries and comes into the possession of women throughout history.
The series ran for 185 issues, through to 2015, and has crossed into the DC and Marvel universes among others over the years. It is the latest in a long line of developing projects adapting comics from Image Comics.
