Netflix's 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' coming October!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will hit Netflix October 26!
Netflix’s darker adaptation of the now 47-year old Archie Horror imprint, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, will drop all 10-episodes right in time for Halloween!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Mad Men alum Kiernan Shipka as the titular character Sabrina Spellman. The dark coming-of-age series has been described as a cross between Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, and will be a complete reimagining of 1971's comic book series based on Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer, Robert Aguirre-Sacasa’s 2014 American comic book series of the same name.
Aguirre-Sacasa’s Netflix series appears to be a beat for beat adaptation of his 2014 source material, featuring almost every character from The Crucible Volume 1 - including Shipka’s Sabrina Spellman - an intelligent half-human, half-witch who is just beginning her education as a sorceress, all while balancing life as a teenager at Baxter High. The series will also feature Sabrina's Aunts, Zelda (Miranda Otto) and Hilda Spellman (Lucy Davis), her boyfriend Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch), Sabrina's favorite teacher "Evangeline Porter" - who's secretly out for revenge against the Spellman family under the disguise of "Madam Satan" (Michelle Gomez). The series will also feature Sabrina's best friend Rosalind Walker (Jaz Sinclair) and cousin Ambrose Spellman (Chance Perdomo), along with Sabrina's trusted adviser Salem the cat, who I’m guessing will be CG.
There's still no word if characters from either Aguirre's Riverdale series or Sabrina will crossover from their respective city limits. Back when Sabrina was in development for the The CW, the series was originally intended to be a companion series set in the same universe; however after the series moved to Netflix, Executive Producer Jon Goldwater confirmed they will serve as two separate entities.
Either way, I'm very intrigued to view the first trailer, which I'm guessing will drop sometime in the coming weeks! Stay tuned!
