Paramount sets new release dates for 'Mission: Impossible' 7 & 8

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor PSA: stay off the bleach

Shocker. Paramount has delayed the theatrical releases of Mission: Impossible 7 & 8.

Thankfully, the delays are minor. According to industry outlets, the seventh installment will hit theaters just four months later than expected moving from July 21, 2021 to November 19, 2021. And the eighth installment will move back just three months from August 5, 2022, to November 4.

Paramount’s announcement comes as “Mission: Impossible 7” would likely be weeks, even months into production in a world without COVID-19. The good news is Paramount's theatrical shift doesn't appear to deviate from Christopher McQuarrie's original plan to shoot back to back in order to meet their 2021 and 2022 release dates.

Of course, 2022's release could always be pushed back due to further production delays or scheduling conflicts. But conventional wisdom says Paramount would not have tweaked the schedule had they not received the ‘all clear’ from Cruise, Fergusson, as well as mainstays Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny (!) along with series newcomers Nicholas Hoult, Pom Klementieff, Hayley Atwell, and Shea Whigham. At least, let's hope so!

Unfortunately, any talk of an Edge of Tomorrow sequel will definitely be on hold until at least, 2021.
