Preview of the Next Five Walt Disney Animation Films (That Are Announced)

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter Walt Disney Animation has been on a roll as of late with hits like Frozen, Big Hero 6, and Zootopia. So with that being said what are the next five films coming out of this animation giant? Let's take a look. *Disclaimer* This list is just for Walt Disney Animation not for Pixar Studios.

5. Moana (November 23 2016)

Moana is the first film of the five we will be previewing. The film stars Auli'l Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the demigod Maui. The songs for the film were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The story of Moana is about a girl who travels the seas to find a fabled island along with her hero Maui. The film will be directed by the team of Ron Clements and John Musker who also directed Disney classics such as Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. The film looks to have it all right now. It has two great directors, music, and The Rock.

4. Wreck-It Ralph 2 (March 9 2018)

That's quite a gap between animation films. In the original Wreck-It Ralph we saw Wreck-It Ralph travel through the world of arcade games. Now the sequel is going to be about Ralph venturing to the world of the Internet. John C. Reilly will return to voice the character of Ralph. Wreck-It Ralph was released in 2012 and has been a successful property for the Walt Disney Company. There is no surprise this franchise is getting a sequel. There are rumors Disney may be building a Wreck-It Ralph attraction at one of its theme parks. Disney may be investing more into this property. I personally enjoyed the first Wreck-It Ralph and I hope the sequel is just as good.

3. Gigantic (November 21 2018)

Gigantic is Disney's take on 'Jack and the Beanstalk', and it was revealed at D23, a Disney fan expo, in 2015. It's about an adult explorer named Jack and how he befriends an eleven year old giant named Inma. This is the official description from Disney.

"Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, Disney’s “Gigantic” follows adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. But he doesn’t account for her super-sized personality—and who knew giants were so down to earth?"

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez from Frozen will be in charge of the music for Gigantic. I'm expecting a few catchy tunes from this film. Nathan Greno (Tangled) will be directing the film. The film looks promising right now and last time Disney adapted a fairy tale it did pretty well. (*cough cough* Frozen is based off of the Snow Queen) Speaking of Frozen...

2. Frozen 2 (TBA)

Although it's release date wasn't announced. Frozen 2 is currently in development at Walt Disney Animation Studios. All of the original cast will return to voice their respective characters. Disney looks continue Frozen Fever with the upcoming sequel. If I had to take an educated guess I would say the sequel will come out in 2020… maybe 2019. Disney said they have found the quality story for the sequel. Although many fans are assuming the story will be about Elsa's love life. Despite the heavy hashtag movement I doubt that will be the essential plot. It could be a minimal part of the plot though. Frozen made $1.3 billion at the box office so the sequel was inevitable.

1. Mickey Mouse Film (TBA)

Mickey Mouse might get his first solo film in a long time!

Walt Disney Animation isn't forgetting that "It was all started by a mouse." Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and the rest of the gang may be returning to the big screen soon. There has been no details on the film if it will be hand drawn animation or if it will be CGI like everything else. Seeing Mickey back in action would be a real treat for all of us hardcore Disney fans. I wouldn't mind this film being new age animation but retelling old stories like Steamboat Willy.

Hope you enjoyed this preview of the next five Walt Disney Animation films.
