GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor The 30-year-old Justice League star will play Mahershala Ali’s on-screen son, Freddy Burns. Talk about father-son duo.

Deadline has confirmed Justice League superhero Ray Fisher has been added as a series regular joining the WICKEDLY talented Mahershala Ali along with co-stars Carmen Ejogo, and Stephen Dorff. I mean, forget about season 2, the third season of HBO's True Detective is quietly shaping up to be one of 2019's most-anticipated shows!

Season three of Nic Pizzolatto’s anthology crime drama will take us through a decade-long journey that will play out in three separate time periods, following Arkansas police detectives Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) and Roland West (Stephen Dorff) who investigate a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks. Actress Carmen Ejogo (The Girlfriend Experience) has been cast as Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas school teacher with a connection to two missing children.

The 30 year-old Justice League star will play Freddy Burns, Wayne’s son. Talk about family gene pool. Additionally, Deadline confirms actors Rhys Wakefield (The Purge), Michael Greyeyes (Fear the Walking Dead) and Jon Tenney (That's 'Sheriff Behan’ in Tombstone) have been cast in recurring but undisclosed roles. And joining Fisher is Batman vs. Supes alum Scoot McNairy, who is cast as a father who suffers a terrible loss whose fate is tied to both Hayes (Ali) and West (Dorff) over the 10 year period.

Season 1 and 2 showrunner Nic Pizzolatto returns as the sole scribe for the third season with the exception of Episode 4, which he co-wrote with David Milch (Deadwood). Green Room/Blue Ruin filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier is also confirmed to direct all of season 3 which kicks off production this month in Northern Arkansas.

Though HBO has officially green lit Season 3, they have yet to announce the episode total and a release date. For now, we're pretty excited about this casting news.
