Rebecca Thomas in Talks to Direct The Little Mermaid
Universal is in early talks with director Rebecca Thomas in the search for a director to helm the upcoming live-action Little Mermaid film.
Written by Richard Curtis, the adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale will star Chloe Grace Moretz as the titular mermaid.
Thomas garnered some attention via her 2012 indie film Electrick Children, and is currently involved in pre-production for YA adaptation of John Green's Looking for Alaska. Last year, THR named Thomas one of ten of the next generation of great Hollywood directors.
Sofia Coppola was initially attached to direct the film, but ultimately left in June due to creative differences with the studio.
