Robert Downey Jr. to Star in 'The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle'

Robert Downey Jr has signed on for Universal Pictures' The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. The project is based on the fictional physician from the 1920s series of children's books who could talk to animals. Stephen Gaghan is directing from his own script based on an earlier version by Tom Shepherd.

Universal won the rights last week at the end of a heated bidding war. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing for their own company Roth/Kirschenbaum Films while Susan Downey also produces alongside them.

Downey will be next seen in his iconic role of Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming before next year's Avengers: Infinity War.
