The sequel to 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' set for December 2019

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor The sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will return to theaters on December 13, 2019!

After a massive $400M domestic and $900M global box office performance, it’s no surprise Sony has set a release date for the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

The Rock previewed the sequel's official release date on Instagram telling fans "Christmas comes early" and that once again, he’ll get the chance to "slap Kevin Hart’s lips into next week":

❝ Officially planting our JUMANJI flag. On DECEMBER 13th, 2019 - the game is not over. I hold JUMANJI very close to my heart and I’m beyond grateful you made our movie into the global juggernaut ($1BILLION+) it became. Can’t wait for you to see what our new adventure & new characters have in store as Christmas comes early. And once again, I get to slap @kevinhart4real’s lip’s into next week. ❞

"Jumanji 2" will open a week before Disney-LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX - which shouldn’t be a total hurdle since Welcome to the Jungle released a week-and-a-half after Star Wars: The Last Jedi and still opened at $100 million, and managed to dominate the box office for four straight weeks. More importantly, the creative talent behind Jungle are set to return including Jumanji’s jungle avatars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, along with screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker, and Director Jake Kasdan.

No official plot details have been revealed but it's a safe bet the game will find it's way into a new set of hands that will inevitably transport them into the digital world of “Jumanji.”
