ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter The first two films in Disney's Lucasfilm era have been successful both in reviews and at the box office. Focusing on the financials they have been really successful for the galaxy far far away. Merchandising in pop culture franchises raised 4.4% due to Star Wars related merchandise. Disney acquired Lucasfilm for $4 billion back in 2012. Disney looks like it's got its money back in big ways. The Force Awakens earned $2 billion at the box office. Then Rogue One the following year made a $1 billion.

This doesn't even include the outside money they are making on the franchise. The franchise now could be worth a lot more. Consumers spent $262.9 billion on merchandise this increase was due to the last two Star Wars films.

Marty Brochstein, senior VP of industry relations and information for the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association mentioned that blockbusters like Finding Dory and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice contributed to the rising total.
