The CW Nearly Made a 'Friday the 13th' Pilot; Why it didn't Happen

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The CW had a Friday the 13th series in the works, set to explore Jason Vorhees' backstory. Back in April, we learned that the network said no.

At the TCA panel today, CW president Mark Pedowitz was blunt. "We had better pilots."

"Bottom line, we thought we had stronger things to go with and we didn't go forward with it." In the end, the network went with Riverdale, Frequency, and No Tomorrow.

The pilot would have reportedly focused on a detective searching for his missing brother at Crystal Lake. Pedowitz said he just didn't see where else to go beyond the pilot.

"It was well written. It was darker than we wanted it to be and just didn't believe it had sustainability."

With the CW deal expiring at years end, there's always a chance the pilot might find another home.
