'The Divergent Series' Finale to Land as TV Movie with an Accompanying TV Series
The Divergent Series has meandered on with quick turnovers and poor performances at the box office, become a franchise that feels like its in a rush to end. With plenty of setbacks along the way, Lionsgate has revealed that the final film will not arrive in theaters, instead debuting as a TV movie.
Along with the movie will be a spin-off TV show that could go in a number of directions. After the third film, Allegiant, raked in just $179.2 million worldwide, the studio has clearly been forced to take stock and rethink this particular investment.
Lionsgate's television group will handle the production, set to bring to an end the current cast's story while introducing a new cast to fill out the TV series. It's unclear whether stars such as Shailene Woodley will appear in the movie.
