Tom Hanks Is In Early Talks to Play Geppetto in Disney's Live-Action 'Pinocchio'
Paddington's Paul King is set to direct. King, Chris Weitz, and Simon Farnaby have written the latest script. Pinocchio will be produced by Weitz and Andrew Miano.
The original animated film followed the story of a puppet named Pinocchio and his wish of becoming a real boy. Geppetto is a puppeteer and eventually a father figure to Pinocchio.
This continues Disney's dominant strategy of rebooting animated classics. Next year in 2019 there are three remakes of animated classics, Aladdin, Dumbo, and The Lion King.
Tom Hanks will also have a busy 2019. As he will return as Woody in Toy Story 4, and also star in a World War II film titled Greyhound. Hanks is currently filming the Mr. Rogers film for Tri-Star.
Hanks as Geppetto would be an exciting development.
