'Van Helsing' Reboot Set to Take Place Within Universal's Monsters Universe
Universal is set to try and challenge DC and Marvel with their own expanded universe, this one harboring icons like Dracula, The Mummy, and Frankenstein. Now, the studio is set to reboot Van Helsing, the famed monster hunter, to slot into that universe.
Dracula Untold proved a failed attempt to launch the universe, so Tom Cruise's The Mummy is officially the kicking-off point for what the studio is hoping will be a challenger for the other big companies to consider.
Eric Heisserer is penning the rebooted Van Helsing film. "This is early in the process, and it's evolutionary. I don't know if that's going to stay that way. But right now there is an absolute... there's some cartilage that links it to other pieces, like The Mummy," he told CinemaBlend.
The Mummy arrives June 6, 2017.
