Naomi Watts on her character Ann in Dream House

Jim Sheridan came to me and asked me to meet with him. To look at the script. And I thought straight away, from the first read it was a good page turner. A food thriller. A lot of mystery. And I really liked the role of Ann, because we don't know who she is for quite a while. Even though we know that she's a neighbor. We don't know how she's relating to these people. And she reminded me of kind of a Hitchcock character. There's something strange about her. Something that pulls you in. Do we like her? Or do we not? You know. And I liked that.

Obviously something took place in their friendship. Their relationship. Whatever it is. And it was something that she can remember, but he can't. And everybody around town is a little afraid of this guy. And she's the only one that sort of is there for him, as a support. Which leads the audience to believe: okay, is she genuinely supportive? Or is she trying to make amends. Has she done something wrong?
