'Westworld' Season 2 Trailer

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Freeze all motor functions. Now answer, was the wait worth the excitement?

Sort of.

HBO unveiled their first Super Bowl 'ad' in over 20 years with a brief 30-second spot that gave way to an extended 90-second trailer for the second season of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's thrilling sci-fi series Westworld.

The extended trailer infuses a mix of footage and promo shots narrated to perfection by Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood). Westworld's new insurgent leader delivers an ominous warning to all "We lived by your rules long enough, this world deserves to die, we can burn it to the ground, and from the ashes build a new world. Our world."

The beautiful yet underwhelming spot also features shots of an unfinished host looming behind Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) and a sequence of robotic bulls trampling through the very establishment who created the rules led by Westworld's other rebellion leader Maeve (Thandie Newton).

'Westworld' Season 2 - 90-second spot

The second season will also see the return of Ed Harris' William aka The Man in Black, Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth), and Lee Sizemore (Simon Quaterman) and will be joined by series newcomers Gustaf Skarsgård (Vikings), Fares Fares (Zero Dark Thirty), and Get Out's standout Betty Gabriel.

Season 2 premieres April 22 with the first episode titled “Journey Into Night" written by Lisa Joy.
