'Wrath of the Titans' Writer Hired for Script Duties on 'Van Helsing' Reboot

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Universal's upcoming monsters franchise is sure to spark plenty of interest, and maybe some hesitance from fans of the classics, and now the latest piece of news slots a writer in for the Van Helsing film.

The Tracking Board reports that writer Dan Mazeau has been onboard script duties since last September, though his involvement was never announced. He takes over from Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer, who have some impressive credits to their names.

Whether or not Mazeau is actually rewriting or just tweaking the work Spaihts and Heisserer had done is unclear. Mazeau has done work on 2012's Wrath of the Titans as well as Luna Park, which is to-be-filmed by director Doug Liman with Tom Cruise attached.

Recently, Heisserer had this to say about Van Helsing, and with context it now makes more sense: "I don’t know what it’s going to look like at the end of the process, so I’m gonna withhold on commenting on really where it lands. I can say that my intent stepping in was to make it as scary as possible, partly because I know how to do that, and also because when you’re the only human surrounded by a bunch of supernatural creatures, that’s gotta be absolutely unnerving."
