X-Men: Apocalypse Defies Critical Response to Crush 'Alice Through the Looking Glass'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Opening on the holiday weekend and with less than impressive reviews on its back, X-Men: Apocalypse finished on top at the box office (as if there was any doubt), wiping the floor with Alice Through the Looking Glass in the process.

Apocalypse earned over $80 million during the four-day weekend, and has an overall global take of over $265 million. It finished nowhere near Days of Future Past's Memorial Day weekend take of $110 million, though that was unlikely to begin with.

Alice Through the Looking Glass only took $34.2 million over the long weekend, well short of the first Alice film, which pocketed $116 million. Globally, the film has taken just under $100 million so far.
