Zack Synder and Ben Affleck Talk Influence 'Man of Steel' Had On 'Batman v. Superman'

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong Remember back in 2013 when Man of Steel featured the over-the-top destruction of Metropolis, and the particularly frustrating way in which Superman finished off General Zod in the film's climax? Well, Zack Snyder is still as eager at defending the movie's ending, and says it is in-keeping with the message of their entire cinematic universe.

“I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences,” Snyder tells Entertainment Weekly. “There are other superhero movies where they joke about how basically no one’s getting hurt. That’s not us. What is that message? That’s it’s okay that there’s this massive destruction with zero consequence for anyone?”

Whether you like it or not, massive destruction will play a major role in the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Ben Affleck, who portrays The Caped Crusader in the new movie, defends Snyder's use of mass destruction.

“One of the things I liked was Zack’s idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings,” says Ben Affleck. “And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne’s building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event.”

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside be Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jess Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fisburne and Diane Lane. It is set for release on March 25, 2016.
