'10 Cloverfield Lane' Director Eyed for Harry Houdini Biopic
Lionsgate has its eye on director Daniel Trachtenberg, who directed 10 Cloverfield Lane earlier this year, to helm its Harry Houdini biopic, which at one point had Johnny Depp in talks to star and has been long in development.
Depp was in talks in 2014 before it fell through. No other actors are currently attached, though producers Frank Marshall and Bruce Cohen have been onboard for a number of years. It is based on the biography "The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero."
The book traces Houdini's life from poverty to worldwide fame, including his secret life as a spy and his plot to subvert his legacy. He died in 1926. The script has been penned by Noah Oppenheim (Jackie).
