2016 Becomes Disney's Biggest Year at the Box Office Ever

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Racing toward the end of the year, Disney has already made 2016 it's biggest year ever at the box office. This is thanks to blockbuster releases Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory, and Zootopia. Notably, the resurgence of animated films as genuine giants of the industry.

The studio has taken $5.81 billion in worldwide ticket sales up to November 1. With Doctor Strange in theaters now, as well as Moana and Star Wars: Rogue One still to come, it's genuinely daunting to think about how much higher those numbers will climb.

Universal still holds the record for annual box office revenues, with a total of $6.89 billion in 2015 due to big releases such as Furious 7 and Jurassic World.

“For the second year in a row, The Walt Disney Studios has reached a new high at the box office thanks to an absolutely stellar collection of releases from Disney, Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm,” said Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Hornin a statement. “This success is a testament to the refined talent and innovative work the entire studio team puts into making these world-class cinematic experiences.”
