Annabelle 2 Gets a Director and Release Date
New Line Cinema has picked Lights Out director David Sandberg to direct Annabelle 2. The sequel has also received a May 19, 2017 release date.
The original spin-off from The Conjuring, Annabelle, was directed by John R. Leonetti with peter Safran and James Wan producing. The film made over $250 million worldwide on a $6.5 million budget.
Safran and Wan are producing the sequel, and Variety reported back in October that Gary Dauberman was attached to write the script. No casting has been announced yet.
Sandberg's directorial debut, Lights Out, has a July 22 release date set, and is based on his own 2013 short film.
