'Arrow' Producer Discusses the Latest Fatal Twist

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell In the opening episode of Arrow's fourth season, a gravestone was teased. And in tonight's episode, the victim was revealed, surprising audiences who thought this particular iconic DC comics character would be the last on the list of character's the show might cull.

Spoilers from here from Arrow, season 4, episode 18.

Laurel Lance, also known as Black Canary was stabbed and eventually died in the show's latest episode, a choice that producer Marc Guggenheim knew would infuriate a lot of fans. "We're not [blind] to the shipping, and we're not [blind] to the internet controversy... But we've never made decisions on the show, creatively, because of the internet."

"... Truth be told, we told the Laurel-Oliver romance story in season 1... and we never really thought about going back to it. So, the shipping thing was not... a factor for us... we've always made no bones about the fact that we are telling our own version of the Green Arrow mythos."

The producer explained never feeling tied to one particular iteration of the character, or characters, as they went about telling their story. and guaranteed that the actress (Katie Cassidy) would not vanish from the Arrow-verse, set to appear in an episode of The Flash as well as in Vixen.

Cassidy, meanwhile, gave her most memorable part of playing Laurel in her four-year stint as "when I put the [Black Canary] jacket on for the first time]."

"I still get choked up talking about it because I was so excited."
