Bryan Fuller to Helm New Star Trek Series

NadiaA71 NadiaA71 CBS have just announced that Bryan Fuller is returning to the new Star Trek Series as co-creator and executive producer.

Fuller, who created and wrote Pushing Daisies and the Hannibal TV series, is certainly no stranger to Star Trek. He started his career writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. For this new series, Fuller will collaborate with Alex Kurtzman.

My very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls," Fuller said in a statement. "Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire. It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.

This is certainly good news for the franchise. After the announcement last year that a new series is in the works, fans have been speculating about which period or storyline the series will take and who will be involved with its creation. While the details of the show are not yet known, the announcement of Fuller's involvement is a big step forward for the new series.

Bringing Star Trek back to television means returning it to its roots, and for years those roots flourished under Bryan’s devoted care,” said Kurtzman, who will executive produce the new show along with Fuller. “His encyclopedic knowledge of Trek canon is surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic future, a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds.

The new series will also coincide with Star Trek's 50th Anniversary. CBS previously announced that the show will premiere in early 2017.
