Channing Tatum Still Attached to X-Men Spinoff 'Gambit'; Producer Adamant the Film is Still Happening
Gambit has been in developmental hell for a while, but Fox isn't giving up on the struggling project. Following the shock success on Deadpool, there's even more incentive to get this thing off the ground, because maybe lightning can strike twice.
Producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed during TCA, while speaking on behalf of FX's new series Legion, that the film has not been scrapped just yet, and Channing Tatum is still attached to star as the leading Cajun superhero.
“Well, only that it’s a solo spinoff, that’s the only thing. They are different animals," the producer said when asked if Deadpool's success would have an impact. She was quite blatant that Canning Tatum is "at this point, yes," still attached.
On Deadpool 2, Shuler Donner voiced some natural nerves. "Every time you have a big success, even after X-Men 1 doing X-Men 2, it's a bit daunting. Now the bar is raised, now you’re not just telling a story and establishing character, we have to do it better than we did it before and still be new and fresh. So that sort of bar … to still be fresh and original and be better.”
